I am looking forward to the upcoming forum on Common Core on March 27th at 7pm in the Spartanburg County Council chambers. Some of you may know that the legislation to stop Common Core in South Carolina has been amended to keep it in the two subjects that we have and stop it in the two not yet compromised. I oppose that, and I will support efforts to amend the bill back to its original form that banned Common Core altogether. I also am working on legislation to put an end to the endless standardized testing that almost is as evil as Common Core. This will allow teachers to do what they do best – Teach (and not worry about teaching to test). I will have more information on that in upcoming updates.
I do not like all the tests that are given; some students “do freeze” when tests area administered; they are bright but become very nervous so then receive a “low score”. Yes, teachers should teach—not for the sake of teaching for a test.
THANKS FOR YOUR COMMITTMENT TO DITCH COMMON CORE. ALL IT DOES IS PLACE THE GOVERNMENT BETWEEN PARENTS AND CHILDREN.
Thank you Senator Martin. Your efforts are encouraging and very much appreciated.
Here is a recent online post that will add to your correct assessment of Common Core and the over emphasis on standardized testing:

Shane. You have my support in this endeavor. Jim White
Senator, you have my support to help block the Common Core initiative. It is bad for schools and bad for students. Any efforts in the direction of over-structured education at the expense of the ability to think will only be harmful to our children and our state in the future. Please continue to fight against all introduction of Common Core and feel free to reach out for assistance in whatever way that I might be able to help.
The fact that the federal government has enough money to buy the education rights from the states should tell us that we are overpaying the federal government.
Thank you for what you are doing to stop the Common Core requirements. It’s a total embarrasement for our children to be compared to the kids in other states and always coming in last. We need to set lower standards that our kids can meet so that they can look good.
