This remains a top priority. In 2015, even though they claimed it couldn’t be done, we sent over $300 million to maintenance and repair of local roads. It’s estimated our state will receive almost $1.2 billion in new money from multiple sources this year. $750 million of that will be recurring (yearly) funds. We (once again) should send funding from both one-time and recurring sources directly to the repair of local roads so true priorities can be met. I’ll remain opposed to sending new money to SCDOT until we achieve needed reform for this agency which diverts more funding to new projects than to repair. Until we get a handle on repairing our current infrastructure, we should suspend new projects. This means fixing your potholes before building new roads! I‘ll also remain opposed to raising taxes for this or any other reason as the government has enough of our money and, as noted above, that pot of money grows yearly!
Our roads are horrible Shane and you know it first hand I’m sure. Thanks for standing firm on NO new roads until the old ones are fixed ( not just throw asphalt in a hole, tamp it ) and move on to the next one. We need resurfacing done on a lot of roads just hear in Spartanburg County. Thanks for your commitment to your constituents.
A lot of the roads in Spartanburg County are so bad they have to rebuild the road bed before putting the asphalt overlay on them. There are numerous drainage issues too on these roads. The CTC in Spartanburg could use at least triple the amount they received in 2015. The money going to CTC should also be used to widen the too narrow roads and also to fix the drainage issues on these roads. The money should not just be restricted to resurfacing. Please take this into consideration. Fix and improve what we currently have.
There is a huge safety problem with many of the roads in and around Greenville. There are numerous accidents due to roads that are too narrow, too many curves, and visually impaired due to trees and bushes way to close to the roadway. I just wish that safety for drivers and pedestrians had more of a priority when whoever designed these roads! You take your life in your hands going to the store.
Shane: Are you Ok with increasing the gas tax to handle some of these road needs?
Please remain firm on no new taxes for road repair, we have the money, lets use what we have. Speaking for the crew at Friends Restaurant, stay strong!!
